It seems that the origin of the name
of Higanbana has become the origin of the Japanese name of this flower because
it begins to bloom in autumn's Higan.

日本の気候を表す慣用句に「暑さ寒さも彼岸まで」があり、残寒・残暑は彼岸のころまで続き、彼岸をすぎるとやわらぐという。ヒガンバナの名前の由来は秋のヒガンの頃咲き始めるのでこの花の日本名の由来となったらしい。
