a kingfisher male inhabiting in town

Two male and female kingfishers were born in a shell midden near my house this year. Males often come to large drains in here to catch small fish. Females also fly to come less frequently than males, but they do come from time to time, and if males are present at that time, they will be chased away. An estimated 100 small fish still inhabit the two fallen leaf stocks in this waterway. From now on, it will be cold, small fish will be slow to move, recognition will be complex, and predation will be difficult.

Oriental stork

Oriental storks come around here looking for food

Oriental storks who were released from the facility of Noda city had come over for the first time in two years

The wild storks in Japan became extinct in 1971, and today artificially bred individuals have been released in the fields. Most recently, it was observed for the first time breeding naturally in eastern Japan (Watarase retarding basin) this year 2020.

The Oriental stork is found in Japan, Manchuria, Korea, and Siberia. It was once extirpated from Japan and the Korean Peninsula. However, in May 2007 a hatchling was reported in Japan for the first time in 40 years in the wild. It was an offspring of two storks who were bred in captivity.(Wikipedia)

JBF2022

Japan Bird Festival (JBF), one of the largest festivals in Japan related to birds, was not held due to COVID-19 for two years. 2022 was held from 5 to 6 November, with great weather.

According to Abiko city where I live in HP, this event, Japan Bird Festival (JBF) is one of the largest festivals in Japan related to birds. It annually is held at Lake Teganuma in Abiko City, Chiba, located in the North East of Tokyo. Whoever young or old, birdwatcher or non-birdwatcher, and others, can enjoy every bird event!

There are many events in JBF. For example, NPOs, NGOs, unincorporated groups, and city governments, exhibit their activities at their own booth tent. Children can enjoy handicraft classes, bird carving, and painting. Moreover, birding from on-boat or lakeside are held.
