Brown hawk owl breed in the People's
Republic of China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Ussuri during the summer, and
winter southward to Southeast Asia in the winter season. It lives in India and
Sri Lanka, the southern part of the People's Republic of China, Southeast Asia
annually. In Japan, the subspecies Brown hawk owl (Japanese name Aobazuku )
will fly (summer migrant) for
breeding the north of Kyushu. It comes from it that the Japanese name comes
from flying in the season when green leaves sprout.

アオバズクは夏季に中華人民共和国、日本、朝鮮半島、ウスリーで繁殖し、冬季になると東南アジアへ南下し越冬する。インドやスリランカ、中華人民共和国南部、東南アジアでは周年生息する。日本では亜種アオバズクが九州以北に繁殖のため飛来（夏鳥）する。和名は青葉が芽生える季節に飛来することが由来。
