It breeds in the area from frozen zone to subarctic zone of the Eurasian Continent and the North American, and in the winter it migrates over to Africa, Middle East, India, Australia, Central America, South America and overwinter.

To Japan, It migrates a lot of birds as a passage migrant during the spring season, but there are few autumn migration records. A few are overwintering in the Nansei Islands. In Japan, these images installed here like are found at a rice field commonly after rice planting.
