The Oriental storks
were breeding in various parts of Japan at the end of the Edo Period
(1603-1868), but in 1971, individuals inhabit Japan disappeared due to hunting,
land development, water pollution, etc.
After that, a small
number of stork inhabiting Eurasia continental occasionally came to fly to the
Japanese archipelago.
In 1992, the Hyogo
Prefectural Breeding Center started breeding and was released to wild thereafter,
in addition, now breeding at the facility and release to wild are being carried
out in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture and Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture.
The images of this
stork installed here that I took the other day,
named Yamato with GPS device, was the one released to wild from
Noda-city's stork breeding facility ”Konotori-no Sato", Chiba Prefecture,
in 2017.
