Local TV news says on February 12, following:

Again due to the strong cold weather has become heavy snow around the Japan Sea side again. In Okura village Hijiori, Yamagata prefecture, snow accumulated over 4 meters for the first time in this winter.  It is the first time in five years that it will be over 4 meters in Hijiori.

強い寒気の影響で、再び、日本海側を中心に大雪となっている。山形県の大蔵村肘折では、この冬、全国で初めて積雪が４メートルを超えた。肘折で４メートルを超えるのは、５年ぶり。

Yukitsuri (Japanese: 雪つり) is a Japanese technique for preserving trees and shrubs from heavy snow.Trees are given extra support by bamboo poles with ropes attached to limbs.
