It lives in India and Sri Lanka, the southern part of the People's Republic of China, Southeast Asia annually. In Japan, the subspecies Brown hawk owl (Japanese name Aobazuku )

will fly (summer migrant) for breeding the north of Kyushu. It comes from it that the Japanese name comes from flying in the season when green leaves sprout.

アオバズクは夏季に中華人民共和国、日本、朝鮮半島、ウスリーで繁殖し、冬季になると東南アジアへ南下し越冬する。インドやスリランカ、中華人民共和国南部、東南アジアでは周年生息する。日本では亜種アオバズクが九州以北に繁殖のため飛来（夏鳥）する。和名は青葉が芽生える季節に飛来することが由来。
